Nonni’s Italian Festival is a bright, playful, and colorful festival geared toward the younger generation of Italian Americans. The main characters, Nonna and Nonno, offer familiar and light hearted stereotypical imagery to the festival goers. Each illustration is simple and graphic.
The illustrations are hand drawn and traced digitally. They can be interchanged to interact differently based on the deliverable. The deliverables include a pamphlet schedule, poster series, and festival booth examples.
A big part of this project for me was the imagery of Nonna and Nonni. I played into Italian American stereotypes I have witnessed throughout my upbringing. Starting with pencil and paper, I played with proportions and basic forms.
After locking down my illustration style I began creating other assets on tracing paper which I then scanned into illustrator and image traced each image. The final step was adding color blocks to these characters and the assets of their world!
